02 November 2017

Taco Rietveld, Investment director at HB Capital (family office of the Blokker family) discussed the reputation of the Dutch private equity industry at a conference of Rotary Club ‘s-Hertogenbosch. As a guest of Jaap Smits from Blacktrace and member of Rotary ‘s-Hertogenbosch West, Taco elaborated on the ins and outs of private equity and the reputation it has with the general public.

A lot has changed since private equity started attracting attention in the 1980’s and terms like “asset stripping” and “corporate raiders” appeared in the newspapers. The industry has professionalized and is an increasingly competitive environment, urging investment funds to continuously sharpen their strategies in order to create value. Moreover, corporate social responsibility is increasingly important. The Dutch association for investors NVP (www.nvp.nl) published an extensive report on the important role private equity has in Dutch society.”
